Dental fillings are mixtures of different metals used to fill up a cavity. Here are the most common and the most popularly used dental fillings:

1. Dental Amalgam: Dental Amalgam is a self-hardening mixture of liquid mercury and silver-tin-copper alloy powder. It is often used as a filling material and a replacement for broken teeth. These are also known as silver fillings.These fillings can be used as filling materials and can also be used as replacements for broken teeth. Dental Amalgams are leakage resistant, long lasting and durable. They are quite inexpensive as well. They have two certain disadvantages: they may stain and discolor teeth over time and may also make them sensitive to hot and cold temperatures.
   

2. Composite Resin: This is a mixture of plastic resin and powdered glass and is known as white fillings. Composite resins are anti-corrosive, resistant to breakage and extremely durable. However, they are costlier than other dental fillings such as amalgams and may start to leak over time.

Besides these fillings, there are a number of other fillings as well that can be used for root canal treatment. What you need to know that the dental implant cost greatly depend upon the type of filling you'll use.

Some other types of fillings include glass ionomer cement, resin ionomer cement, porcelain, cobalt-chrome or nickel alloys, gold alloys and porcelain fused with metal etc.
